Dark Chocolate Kisses

Got this from Jason's Marketplace at City Hall. Too sweet for my taste but I'm loving the purple wrapping.

Food Republic at Somerset 313

Chiqui, who lived in Singapore for three years in the early aughties, was in town and wanted to eat as much local food as possible.

We ended up at the newest Food Republic in the new Somerset 313 mall (topmost floor; Somerset MRT). It was HUGE, maybe double the size of the one at Wisma Atria. The theme was all-white and the placed look very classy and resorty.

The food, however, was nothing great. We had char kwai teow, minced meat noodle, and thai spring rolls. The first two weren't so bad but the spring rolls were horrible.

There's a Toast Box branch, however, so this may be a good spot to bring guests for Sunday brunch.

There's a lady who goes around selling drinks...while riding her Segway. Sosyal.

Chicken Char Siew at the Botanic

I had no idea the Botanic Gardens had a food court. It's to your right when you enter from the Holland Road (Gleneagles Hospital) entrance. You take a flight of stairs going down and you see it -- an all-glass eating area that looks like a mini-Ikea.

They have a fantastic Thai food concessionaire, but what grabbed my attention was this chicken char siew pau from the Chinese stall.

Char siew means asado and while the meat here is very tasty, it's the breading that takes your breath away. It crumbles and melts in your mouth, and you just keep chasing after the flavours.

Cheap at $.50 each.
